This body of work addresses the effects and consequences of stark isolation that was experienced by the population during the Global Pandemic of 2020/2021. When faced with an unprecedented lockdown, the loss of human engagement was palpable. In-person gatherings were deemed non-essential and forbidden. The initial days turned into weeks and months. Isolation translated into a yearning for a return to "normalcy" and a calendar of unmarked occasions. As a response to the forced divorce of gatherings, Glover delves into this melancholy through her series “Cakes”. For each day during lockdown from March 14th - September 3rd, 2020 Glover has created a ceramic slice of cake to mark what could have been. Each slice is an indicator of celebrations big or small, their shared indulgence the center of birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, and social gatherings. With each of the 174 slices of cake, Glover marks these moments that never happened.
